Marina Motel is celebrating GOING GREEN

Facility is enjoying having guests who come for great fishing and sports
tournaments at Val Riess

The Marina Motel located on Paris Road at the Gulf Outlet Marina in
Chalmette recently celebrated GOING GREEN. The facility now uses
state-of-the-art thermal solar panels to supply the hot water for its 106
rooms & laundry facilities, and has converted to high-efficiency a/c units
and lighting throughout. The panels were installed with the support of Kevin
Boone, Director of Renewable Energy for the state of Louisiana of the USDA.
Additionally during this renovation, several rooms were converted to
extended stay suites with kitchenettes.

“We did it to give us better efficiency because we wanted to go green,”
owner Bob Berthelot said. “We are constantly updating the hotel. We are
hoping to grow as the parish grows.”

Berthelot, who built the motel in 1983 and rebuilt it after Hurricane
Katrina, said the 106-room facility that is adjacent to the Gulf Outlet Boat
Launch regularly attracts fishermen and outdoorsmen, but it also is ideal
for families of athletes playing at St. Bernard Parish’s Val Riess Sporting
Complex that now hosts tournaments attracting teams from around the region
and other states. Families enjoy the new flat-screen televisions, free
wifi, microwave/fridges, and coin-operated laundromat, and often choose the
mini-suite kitchenette rooms because of the extra square footage and close
proximity to the pool.

The Marina Motel in St. Bernard offers its guests front door access to the
famed sportsman’s paradise of bayous and marshlands. Located on Bayou
Bienvenue, guests have direct access to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and
its endless maze of water paths – the same marshlands which have hosted
ESPN's Redfish Cup for several years.

The facility offers guests the convenience of launching right at the Gulf
Outlet Marina Boat Launch, where they can get supplies, such as beer, ice,
fuel and snacks. The motel’s Café is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and offers
daily specials of local favorites, from red beans and rice to fried catfish,
a shrimp po-boy or gumbo. The Lucky Bayou Video Poker Casino and Lounge is
located adjacent to the café. Additionally, the Pelican Room is available
for informal meetings or parties, as is the Pelican Pavilion and open-air
structure which can host any outdoor event from crawfish boils to fishing
rodeos.
