St. Bernard to participate in Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test on Nov.
9

Outdoor sirens to be tested second Wednesday of every month

St. Bernard Parish Government will participate in a nationwide test of the
Emergency Alert System (EAS) on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at about 1 p.m. The test
will be heard on the radio and seen on local, cable and satellite
television. This test will last for approximately three minutes and return
listeners and viewers back to regularly scheduled programming.

"The National EAS is a public alert and warning system that enables the US
President to address the American public during emergencies," Parish
President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. said. "As we prepare for and test our
capabilities, this event serves as a reminder that everyone should establish
an emergency preparedness kit and emergency plan for themselves, their
families, communities and businesses."

In addition to this test, St. Bernard Parish will test its Outdoor Emergency
Siren System on Nov. 9. The siren system is part of the Parish Emergency
Notification System, which also includes an AM radio station. Broadcasts
can be heard on 1280-AM radio. Beginning in January 2012, the sirens will
be tested monthly on the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m.
