Chalmette -- The closing of several Gulf Coast claims facilities throughout
the area has some local leaders upset.
Leaders in St. Bernard Parish came together Mondayto urge oil spill claims
administrator Ken Feinberg to keep the office in St. Bernard open.
"They say there's not enough foot traffic, but you have to realize that
every day a fisherman takes off, he doesn't get paid," said St. Bernard
Parish Councilman Frank Auderer. "And they're already struggling, so we
need to have an office in our area to service those people that have not
been serviced yet."
In a statement, Feinberg says the consolidation of offices will help provide
the most efficient way to assist claimants.
You can find a complete list of the local offices closing on Nov. 15, and
later on Dec. 1, at www.gulfcoastclaimsfacility.com.
