St. Bernard Parish siren drill is Thursday afternoon

Don't be alarmed if you hear sirens in St. Bernard Parish this afternoon --
it's just a test. St. Bernard Parish Office of Homeland Security and
Emergency Preparedness will sound its emergency siren system about 1 p.m.

The siren call will last about 3 minutes and include a broadcast on the
local 1680-AM radio station. Tuning to that radio station also allows
residents to confirm the sirens are simply a drill.

The emergency system includes 10 stationary sirens and two mobile sirens,
and was paid for with $500,000 in FEMA Urban Area Security Initiative funds
after Hurricane Katrina.

St. Bernard residents requiring further information can contact the parish
Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness at 504.278.4268 or
click here for the department's website, which has a more detailed staff
contact list.
