Thanks, Debbie. The zoning change is not for a brewery, it is for C2 General
Commercial for over 600 feet and would allow a trailer court, a tourist
court, a funeral home, gas station, auto repair, retail manufacturing, and
apartments, just to name a few.
This particular Docket 03-12 seeks commercial incursion beyond the code
restriction of 250 feet from the highway --- See the map on page 3 of the
link above............ it goes 600 feet into the neighborhood. The
councilman said if the council granted commercial zoning to the 250 feet,
the brewery could operate in that existing warehouse (which lost its
variance to operate in residential before Katrina). That still leaves most
of the residential property zoned residential and preserves the integrity of
our neighborhoods. Perhaps that is the solution?

To add to all this bait and switch type confusion, the Council will take
this issue up for vote at Tuesday's 3pm Meeting, including the council
public hearing, but the Planning and Zoning Commissioners have not met to
discuss the issue and vote on the P & Z Recommendation.
Suzanne.
