St. Bernard Parish Hurricane Isaac Update

St. Bernard Parish President David Peralta was contacted early this morning by Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser requesting assistance in the flooding situation on the east Bank of Plaquemines Parish. President Peralta has committed to assist in this effort, while maintaining a sizeable source of parish employees to assists St. Bernard Parish citizens should the need arise.

At this time St. Bernard residents are asked to minimize water usage due to high winds and rain which has resulted in the loss of electricity to approximately 13,000 homes. Parish officials are in constant contact with Entergy who along with the parish's Road Department will begin restoration of the power grid as soon as the winds subside to a level that will permit safe operations. As a result of the loss of power all residents are asked to minimize water usage and limit flushing of the toilets.

St. Bernard Parish Government Emergency Operations Center will continue to work around the clock for the duration of the event and can be reached at 504-278-4268.

Parish officials will continue to provide updates to the public as time and resources allow.
