DISASTER FOOD STAMP PROGRAM COMES TO AN END IN ST. BERNARD PARISH

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) have shut
down the DSNAP site in St. Bernard Parish. The program formerly called
Disaster Food Stamps, provided food assistance for eligible households who
do not receive regular SNAP benefits and who need help buying groceries due
to lost income or damages from Hurricane Isaac. The program, housed at
Christian Fellowship Family Worship Center in Violet, ran from September 5th
through 12th.

Parish President David Peralta said he would like to thank Pastor Henry
Ballard, Jr. for the use of the church and the St. Bernard Transit
Department (SBURT) for providing bus service. He also would like to thank
the military, LA State Police, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office and the
Office of Emergency Preparedness for their assistance over the past week.
Residents who were not able to make it to the site or who still need
assistance should call 1-888-LAHELP-U (888-524-3578).
