I don't know if that's "entirely" true because I do think each believes in
what they are saying.  But, to an extent I can accept what you're saying as
having some degree of validity because it's human nature to look out for
one's self.  I'd say that falls into the category of self-preservation and
trying to achieve one's own goals, even if selfish.
