Actually, if you go back and re-read the previous posting, there was
no
mentioning in the comment that in the oath of military personnel was
an oath
to defend "the people." What was said is each serviceman's oath is
first to
defend the Constitution, which is defending the rights of "we the
people."
The reference to people was figurative in that to defend the
Constitution is
to defend the people-and each person's rights.
