FOX 8 News received this press release from St. Bernard Parish Government
Wednesday evening:

In early August 2012, St. Bernard Parish Office Tourism Assistant Tourism
Director, Sherry Constance, entered eighteen photographs from the Old Arabi
Historic District into the "Prettiest Painted Places" competition sponsored
by the Paint Quality Institute. Competing against over 200 colorful
nominees from 48 states and the District of Columbia, the Old Arabi Historic
District was selected by a panel of judges as one of the nation's 12
"Prettiest Painted Places in America". The purpose of the competition is to
express pride in communities, and highlight how an attractive exterior paint
treatment can enhance the curb appeal of virtually any home, building, or
exterior structure.

Naming of the 12 "Prettiest Painted Places in America" came after a rigorous
four-month search by the Paint Quality Institute that involved thousands of
contacts with state tourism departments, convention and visitors' bureaus,
chambers of commerce, and Main Street groups, all of whom were invited to
nominate communities. An extensive press campaign will be executed to more
than 12,000 media outlets as a result of the competition.

A panel of judges with expertise in paint and exterior color schemes
reviewed the entries, including beautifully painted homes, buildings, and
exterior murals, and named two winners from each of six different geographic
areas...

In the South Central Region, the winners were Old Arabi Neighborhood, St.
Bernard Parish, Louisiana and Lafayette Square, St. Louis, Missouri. The
former, located just five miles from New Orleans' French Quarter, has two
historic districts full of beautifully painted structures. Lafayette Square
is an elegant urban neighborhood comprised of stately Victorian-era homes
with fine painted detailing....
