St. Bernard Parish authorities say they have tentatively identified the body
found inside a burning Ford Mustang in eastern St. Bernard late Tuesday
night. They have not publicly released the identity, but said the body was
that of a man from Violet.

The death has not been classified, but the Sheriff's Office is treating it
as a homicide. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office performed an autopsy, the
St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office said.

A passerby alerted the Sheriff's Office to the burning vehicle around 11
p.m. Tuesday on the Louisiana 46 Extension, near the junction of the
Florissant/Delacroix highways, the Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

A deputy in the area reported to the scene. Firefighters put out the blaze
and discovered the badly burned body of a man inside the 2004 Mustang.
Authorities will use dental records to make a positive ID, the Sheriff's
Office said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or
the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office at 504.271.2501. Callers may be
eligible for a cash reward of up to $2.500.
