A Mississippi man was booked Wednesday after police say he shot a man he had
spent part of the day drinking with in Chalmette. William Bentley, 55, of
Kiln. Miss., told deputies the man he shot had walked into his trailer as he
slept.

Bentley, who keeps a trailer in Chalmette, said he awoke and saw a shadowy
figure standing in his trailer in the 1900 block of Laura Drive, authorities
said. He said he grabbed a revolver and fired.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office said Ceairon Bailey, 33, who had
just moved into the same trailer park, was in critical condition Thursday at
University Hospital. The Sheriff's Office said he was either hit in the
chest, with the bullet exiting his lower back, or vice versa.

Bentley told deputies he and Bailey had been drinking beer and talking for
several hours Wednesday and that Bailey had been in and out of his trailer
as they hung out together. He said at some point he told Bailey he was
headed into his trailer to go to sleep.

Bentley told investigators he didn't know it was Bailey when he fired the
gun.

Bentley was booked with aggravated battery. He remained in St. Bernard
Prison in lieu of $15,000 bond.
