Open House on Proposed New Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) postponed until
March 26th

The Open House scheduled to view the proposed Flood Insurance Rate Maps
(FIRM) has been rescheduled to March 26, 2013. The open house was
originally scheduled for February 28th but was postponed by FEMA officials.
The meeting will be held in the Sigur Civic Center, located at 8245 W. Judge
Perez Drive, Chalmette from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. Officials from FEMA Region
6 will be on hand for the open house.

Property owners are encouraged to attend the open house to see how their
property will be categorized on the new maps. Several areas of the Parish
will be moving out of Flood Zone A and into Zone X. This will result in
probable savings on flood insurance premiums once the maps have gone through
the 90 day appeal period, and the six month adoption period by the Parish
Council, to become effective. Flood insurance rates are based on the
effective map. Some areas of the Parish that are now in Zone X (former B or
C) will be moving into Flood Zone A. Property owners may go to the
following website for information on their property in relation to the new
maps http://www.riskmap6.com/Community.aspx?cid=119&sid=2.
