A New Orleans man with a lengthy criminal history was caught by St. Bernard
Parish sheriff's deputies on Tuesday while committing his fifth car burglary
in eight days, according to the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office. Reginald
Orange, 44, allegedly confessed to the five burglaries after his arrest.

The arrest is one of several in the past month involving vehicle burglaries.
In December, St. Bernard Parish sheriff's deputies arrested three men
allegedly responsible for 38 car burglaries in the parish.

Then, earlier this month, a Chalmette man was booked with 11 vehicle
burglaries in one night.

Orange allegedly was caught in the act. He was found breaking the lock on a
trailer at an Arabi residence.

He later confessed it was his second car burglary of the day, according to
the Sheriff's Office.

"This is the typical pattern with burglars and thieves,'' Sheriff Jimmy
Pohlmann said. "They commit a spree of crimes before they are caught. In
this case we were able to catch him at the scene and he confessed to ones he
was a suspect in.''

Orange, of the 2600 block of Almonaster Avenue, stole more than $15,000
worth of property before he was caught, the Sheriff's Office state. Only a
small amount of the stolen goods were recovered.

Deputies spotted Orange's red Jeep Cherokee that matched the description a
victim had given of the vehicle leaving after that man's vehicle was
burglarized on Jan. 21.

Orange was arrested for vehicle theft in Arabi last year but the charge was
later thrown out.
