[StBernard] St. Bernard Sheriff's Office asks for higher property taxes

Simple question: Why do homeowners always have to shoulder the burden of
fire and police protection when ALL parish residents use these services?
With the exorbitant costs of homeowners and flood insurance and property
taxes, I now question if it isn't better to rent. Not to mention the cost of
maintenance. According to media publications, our parish real estate values
far lag behind. Used to be owning a home was an investment.
 
Thanks for letting me vent.
 
PS - I do think our fire dept and sheriff's office do a great job.
