A Jefferson Parish man suspiciously driving a U-Haul truck behind a closed
tire business just before midnight Wednesday was arrested for allegedly
stealing about 20 tires from the St. Bernard Parish tire store. Jonathan
Burden, 40, of Marrero, was booked with felony theft and criminal
trespassing.

St. Bernard Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Melerine stopped him in Chalmette after
determining something was off, Sheriff Jimmy Pohmann said. Burden initially
told Melerine that he had gone behind the building because he had to go to
the bathroom.

When asked about the rental truck, Burden said he was in the tire business
and was using it to transport his goods, according to the Sheriff's Office.

He was being held in St. Bernard Parish Prison on Thursday night in lieu of
a $10,000 bond.
