A New Orleans man arrested in January in connection with a murder in the 6th
Ward was booked on Thursday in Arabi with aggravated burglary and possession
of heroin with intent to distribute. Rashad Bakewell, 24, and two other men
are accused of stealing a television from a 21-year-old Arabi woman's
apartment and knocking her to the ground as they fled, according to the St.
Bernard Sheriff's Office.

The trio, all booked on Thursday afternoon with aggravated burglary and
possession of heroin with intent to distribute, was caught minutes after the
robbery. St. Bernard Detective Steve Imbraguglio, who had just heard the
call about the robbery on his radio, noticed one of the men looking over his
shoulder as he approached the alleged getaway car, Sheriff Jimmy Pohlman
said.

That allegedly promoted Imbraguglio to pull over the vehicle. Within the
car, the detective found 16 doses of heroin, according to the Sheriff's
Office.

Bakewell was arrested in January in connection with the December murder of
Dementrius Adams, a 28-year-old cook. While Bakewell initially was booked
with second-degree murder in that fatal shooting, his bond was reduced from
$350,000 to $10,000 on March 14 after New Orleans prosecutors offered a
stipulation that they would be reducing his charge to accessory after the
fact.

After his bail was reduced, Bakewell posted a commercial surety bond and was
released from jail. Court records show that he has a pending May 17 hearing
in New Orleans Criminal District Court on the Adams' murder case.
