St. Bernard Parish Officials Celebrate the Grand Opening of the St. Bernard
Parish Courthouse  

 

St. Bernard Parish President David E. Peralta and other local, state and
federal officials officially cut the ribbon of the St. Bernard Parish
Courthouse on Thursday, April 18th at 1101 W. St. Bernard Highway in
Chalmette.   Joining in the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony were 34th Judicial
District Judges Robert Buckley, Manual Fernandez, Perry Nicosia and Kirk
Vaughn; Clerk of Court Randy Nunez and his staff; Councilmembers Ray Lauga,
Richie Lewis, Casey Hunnicutt and Manuel "Monty" Montelongo; Assessor
Jaylynn Bergeron Turner and Sheriff James Pohlmann.   Also in attendance
were FEMA Representatives Andre Cadogan, Joseph Armstrong and Jenny Campora;
former Parish President Charles Ponstein, former Councilman Mike Ginart,
former Clerk of Court Lena Torres and School Board Superintendent Doris
Voitier.

 

Renovations to the courthouse was funded by FEMA at a cost $14,500,000.00.
Landis Construction, Co., LLC and Beazley Moliere worked tirelessly on this
beautiful facility which houses the Office of the District Attorney, 34th
Judicial District Judges from Divisions A-E, the Clerk of Court's Office and
the Main Courtroom.  

 

Andre Cadogen of FEMA congratulated the parish and said "FEMA is honored to
work closely with St. Bernard on important projects such as this.  

 

President Peralta thanked FEMA and GOHSEP for a great partnership and said
the completion of the building wouldn't be possible without the help of
these two agencies.  He also thanked the following individuals who assisted
with the project: Contractor Landis Construction Co., LLC; Architects
Beazley Moliere; St. Bernard Parish Recovery Manager Donny Bourgeois and the
Recovery staff, Doug Landry, CDMSmith Senior Recovery Administrator; Stacey
Danner, CDMSmith Project Management Firm, and Richard Stierwald, St. Bernard
