Ferry service on the lower Algiers-Chalmette line will be suspended for an
hour on Saturday and Sunday, transportation officials said. The closure from
7-8 a.m. is needed to accommodate a road closure at the Chalmette Refinery,
which will block access to the ferry landing, officials said.

Authorities said the closure will allow a large tank to be moved from the
plant. The boat's schedule will begin at 6 a.m., and make its last trip from
Chalmette at 6:45 a.m. Officials said the ferry will be on stand by at the
Algiers landing until the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office notifies the
ferry captain that service can resume.
