St. Bernard driver booked with DWI after slamming into car and school bus,
sheriff says

A St. Bernard Parish motorist on Tuesda afternoon slammed into a car that
was stopped behind a school bus, injuring that car's driver and shaking up
the seven students on the bus, according to St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James
Pohlmann.

Roy Nunez, 48, who lives on Massicott Road in the Poydras area of eastern
St. Bernard Parish, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
He was also booked with nine counts of vehicular negligent injury and
reckless driving, Pohlmann said. Nunez was taken to St. Bernard Parish
Prison.

None of the students from Joseph Davies Elementary School in Meraux was
seriously injured after the 4:30 p.m. crash on East St. Bernard Highway at
Mumphrey Road in Chalmette, Pohlmann said. All seven students were released
to their parents or guardians, he said.

The accident happened as the bus, headed east, was stopped to drop off
students. Nunez rear-ended the vehicle stopped behind the bus, Pohlmann
said. The impact forced the auto under the bus, requiring extrication of the
driver of that vehicle, the sheriff said.

Andreau Naquin of Violet driving the car that was forced under the bus. She
was taken to St. Bernard Parish Hospital. She wasn't believed to be
seriously injured, Pohlmann said.

Sheriff's Lt. Mike Ingargiola investigated the accident.
