Arabi man, once court-martialed for possessing synthetic marijuana, arrested
with assault rifle

An Arabi man, who once was in the National Guard but was court-martialed for
possession of synthetic marijuana, was arrested after St. Bernard Parish
sheriff's deputies uncovered an AK-47 assault rifle with a bayonet and 508
rounds of ammunition in his bedroom, along with 10 ounces of synthetic
marijuana in his truck, Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann said on Saturday.

Sheriff's officials also found extended magazines, several hundred 20-gauge
rounds, a shotgun, two other guns, $5,000 in cash, and packaging to sell
synthetic marijuana, along with other drug paraphernalia, according to
Pohlmann.

Kyle Muscutt, 23, of the 300 block of Livingston Drive, allegedly had been
selling synthetic marijuana in small amounts, the sheriff said. He said the
synthetic marijuana found had a street value of about $3,000.

Muscutt was booked with possession with intent to distribute synthetic
marijuana, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled,
dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff's narcotics agents, who had information about the AK-47 and large
amounts of ammo, had a warrant from a judge to search his residence and
vehicle but waited until Muscutt left his home to make contact with him on
Wednesday, Maj. Chad Clark, head of the Special Investigations Division,
said on Saturday.

Muscutt was being held in St. Bernard Parish Prison on Saturday in lieu of a
$45,000 bond.
