Runaway cookies, overgrown vegetables, new home construction and families
having fun are all on the menu when award-winning author, storyteller and
recording artist Dianne de Las Casas visits the St. Bernard Parish Library
as the special guest artist for the library's November Saturday Morning
Family Fun program. Dianne will present 'Cornucopia of Tales' at 10:30
a.m., November 16th at the library's Chalmette location. Her banquet table
of stories will include entrees such as her original tales of The Cajun
Cornbread Boy, and The Gigantic Sweet Potato. And just like Santa's visit
at the end of the famous Thanksgiving Day parade, she will round out her
hour-long program with her newest title, The House That Santa Built.
Audience members will work up their Thanksgiving appetites as Ms. Dianne has
them singing, dancing, chanting and clapping as she brings her folktales to
life.

Dianne's performance is quite timely as it falls during Picture Book Month
which is an international reading initiative she founded to promote
literacy. Dianne also tours both at home and abroad sharing her
storytelling with thousands of children as well as presenting workshops,
arts-in-education programs and residencies for educators worldwide.

Funding for this free program has been provided by a grant from the
Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department
of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State
Arts Council as administered by the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural
Affairs.

November is a busy month for the St. Bernard Parish Library. In addition to
its Tales on Tuesdays and Saturday Morning Family Fun programs, the library
is set to open its satellite location on Tuesday, November 12th in the
Historic Beauregard Courthouse, located at 1201 Bayou Rd., St. Bernard.
Hours of operation will be Tuesdays thru Thursdays 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and
Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
