[StBernard] Puppet Show at the St. Bernard Parish Library December 21st @ 10:30 am

Early bird specials, midnight shopping hours, last minute gifts and crowded
malls tend to be what grabs our attention during the holiday season.  Why
not take a break from the holiday hustle and bustle and spend some quality
family time enjoying the St. Bernard Parish Library's Saturday Morning
Family Fun Program on December 21st at its Chalmette location.  At 10:30
a.m. Ms. Karen Konnerth of Calliope Puppets will present her magical shadow
puppet program, entitled 'When Night Dreams'.  Ms. Konnerth will bring to
life timeless tales of night from three different cultures in celebration of
the Winter Solstice, or the longest night of the year.  Guests attending the
program will also have the opportunity to see a unique storytelling
technique that features live sand drawing for scenery and may even learn
some of the puppeteer's secrets!.  Following the performance library friends
will be able to see the hand-made puppets used during the program and meet
the award-winning puppeteer.

 

The St. Bernard Parish Library is able to bring this exciting form of
puppetry to its library patrons for the first time since Hurricane Katrina
thanks to the generosity of our parish's young Lemonade Day entrepreneurs,
their adult sponsors, the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce and their
supportive customers.  Their donation purchased blackout theater drapes for
the library's performance area.  Now library patrons can enjoy artistic
performances requiring reduced lighting for years to come.

 

Funding for this free hour-long performance by Calliope Puppets has been
made possible by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of
Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in
cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the St.
Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs.
