St. Bernard Parish Officials Celebrate the Karen Drive Canal Crossing

St. Bernard Parish President David Peralta and other local, state and
federal officials officially cut the ribbon of the Karen Drive Canal
Crossing on Tuesday, December 17th in Chalmette. This ribbon cutting marks
a milestone in the FEMA funded Hurricane Katrina Recovery repair and
replacement of the St. Bernard Parish infrastructure systems.

St. Bernard Parish has a total of 49 canal crossings scattered throughout
the Parish. Once the 49 crossings, damaged by Hurricane Katrina, are
complete the dollar value requested by St. Bernard Parish to be funded by
FEMA will surpass 17.4 million dollars.

To date, 24 crossings have been completed at a cost of 5.4 million dollars.
There are six (6) canal crossing bridges under construction with two (2)
scheduled for completion by the end January 2014, and the remaining four (4)
scheduled for completion by the end of October 2014. There are nineteen
(19) additional crossings that are in the design phase and/or FEMA funding
phase with a total estimated value of approximately 7 million dollars and an
expected construction completion time of mid to late 2015.
