President Peralta Meets With Danish Parliament Members Visiting Louisiana
St. Bernard Parish President David Peralta met with a group of officials
from Denmark on Thursday, January 2nd, including two members of the Danish
parliament, at a luncheon held at Rocky & Carlo's Restaurant in Chalmette.
The delegation was in town as part of their tour through the south where
they visited with government and business leaders in the energy industry in
Louisiana and Texas. For Danish Parliament member Karsten Lauritzen, this
was not his first trip to St. Bernard.
"Karsten (Lauritzen) had visited St. Bernard Parish back in March, 2007
during a Hurricane Katrina recovery tour we arranged for attendees at a
national Young Republican event held in New Orleans," said Michael Bayham.
"I was happy to arrange for him and his colleagues to come down to St.
Bernard again to see how far we've come as a community."
"Even for short term visitors like us it is clear to see how the strong
community spirit and leadership in St. Bernard have helped the parish to
overcome the challenges and seized the opportunities posed by Katrina," said
Lauritzen.
"It was interesting learning about Denmark's major role in the global
shipping industry," said Peralta. "Most of the discussion we had centered
on trade and how far St. Bernard has progressed in coming back from Katrina.
Our recovery made a big impression on him." Also attending the luncheon was
Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta.
