Hahnville man booked in try to strike deputy

A Hahnville man is behind bars in St. Bernard Parish after he allegedly
tried to run down a deputy in Chalmette following a robbery.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office said Titus White, 33, was arrested
Sunday after authorities spotted his vehicle.

White tried to run over a deputy who was working a security detail at the
Chalmette Wal-Mart at about 9 p.m. Saturday, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Employees told the deputy that White had stolen a TV from the business
earlier in the night, and the deputy began to follow his truck when White
returned to the business, Pohlmann said.

The deputy was able to step out of the way of the truck after it tried to
run him down.

He was able to take down the license plate number.

White returned to Chalmette at about 5 a.m. Sunday and was caught by
deputies in the 400 block of East Celestine Street after a brief foot chase.

Investigators found a TV and drugs inside his 2003 Dodge Durango, Pohlmann
said.

He said White might have returned to the parish to try to sell the TV or
drugs.

White was booked on counts including attempted murder of a deputy, theft,
flight from an officer and possession of heroin, crack cocaine and drug
paraphernalia.

He remained jailed Monday in St. Bernard Parish Prison. His bail was set at
$200,000.
