Update: The Violet man was booked late Monday night on charges of aggravated
battery, home invasion, and false imprisonment along with other charges,
after he shot another man in the left leg inside an apartment building in
Violet, then held him hostage for about two hours before surrendering,
Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann said on Tuesday morning. The sheriff also released
the name of the victim, Denair Riley, 21, also of Violet.

A Violet man was arrested on Monday evening after he shot another man in his
apartment complex on the 2500 block of Edgar Drive in Violet, according to
the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office.

Brandon Robinson, 31, is accused of shooting the victim at about 6:30 p.m.
Monday. Robinson voluntarily walked out of the Violet apartment about 8:30
p.m. following negotiations with sheriff's officials, sheriff's spokesman
Steve Cannizaro said.

Cannizaro said the gunshot victim, also of Violet, was in stable condition
on Monday evening. Robinson shot him in the upper leg, near his hip,
Cannizaro said.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released by authorities on
Monday, was taken to Interim LSU Hospital in New Orleans, according to
Cannizaro.

"At this point, detectives are still looking into what caused this
shooting," he said.

Cannizaro said witnesses saw Robinson and the victim arguing outside the
apartment complex, and then Robinson forced the victim into an apartment.
Robinson is accused of shooting the man in that apartment.

Cannizaro said sheriff's officials on Monday still were determining what
charges they might level against Robinson.
