[Woodcarver] What is relief carving?

I don't know if anyone is following what I'm currently working on.  I have 
been discussing it mostly on the porch.  It is a medallion. 8.5" round x 1", 
which will be relief carved on both sides. it will be displayed in some way that 
both sides can be veiwed.   would you call it a "double sided relief carving"  
or an "in the round relief carving"?       Maura
