[Woodcarver] Reversing Motor Direction

Thanks for the comments . My motor is capable of being reversed by switching the red and black lines . The DPDT switch is to allow you to do this without opening up the motor . I was at a local electrical store where I got the switch and got a sketch from them --still no luck . You may be right and I will need to go to a electrical motor store .

body{font-family: Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:9pt;background-color: #ffffff;color: black;} Denny is correct. The direction is determined by field coil windings in an AC motor. Might I suggest that you find a local place that specilizes in electric motors. Take the motor them and ask about a reversing switch. Electricity is one of those things that if you don't understand it you can create a real hot spot, maybe even hot enough to require the services of your local fire department.

I believe that not all motors are capable of bi-directional operation. This may be your problem...

I have tried to wire a double pole, double throw switch to a 1/4 horse motor I use to drive a 1x42 " belt used to sharpen my carving tools . I have followed the instructions that I got when I bought the switch however the motor still does not reverse . Obviously I am missing something ---has anyone wired such a switch .

Thanks

Brian
