[Clipmate-announce] ClipMate/Darn - McAfee False Positive

Hello ClipMate and Darn! Passwords Users,
This is a security alert (or non-alert, actually) to our
customers.

Yesterday's (June 23) update to McAfee VirusScan is causing
false-positive detection for many programs that use the Armadillo
protection system by SiliconRealms. ClipMate and Darn! both use this
library, and McAfee may erroneously claim that the program is infected
with this worm/virus: "W32/Gaobot.worm.gen.e".

It also may actually delete the program!

If this happens, check for new virus signatures from McAfee.
New signatures should now be available, according to an alert at their
site:

--Update 06/24/2004 "An incorrect identification of some modified
ASPacked files as W32/Gaobot.worm.gen.e has been identified in the
4368 DAT files. The 4369 DAT files are being released to resolve this
incorrect identification."

You should be able to then run ClipMate 6.3 (or Darn! v3.1), or
re-install it if it was removed by McAfee.

You may also experience this with other software, as hundreds of
programs use Armadillo.  And again, there's nothing wrong with these
programs - it's an erroneous false-positive from McAfee.
