Sure. Being located in Germany I don't know about your journalists. But 
one example from over here:

Heinrich Lenhardt. He joined magazine "Happy Computer" in 1984 where he 
managed the game part. The game section got so big it got its own name 
(Power Play) in 1987 and was finally split of into a separate mag in 
1990. He was working on pc game magazines til 2009 and has been 
freelancing since.

I'm sure there are other ones out there :)
