An American flag will fly over St. Bernard Parish again in a flag-raising
ceremony at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 19, next to Pearl Harbor Park on Paris
Road in Chalmette. The event is open to the public.

A flag has been donated to St. Bernard Parish government by the family of
the late Joseph Moity, who headed the Disabled American Veterans chapter.

Joseph Moity's son, Glen Moity presented the flag to Michael Hunnicutt,
director of community development for parish government. The Disabled
American Veterans has previously donated the flags which have flown over
Paris Road and other parish public buildings. Glen Moity said he found the
flag at his mother's flooded residence while trying to search for family
mementos within the damaged dwelling.

The flag survived the storm, although it was a little dirty, Hunnicutt said.
He said Capt. Edward Elovsson, of the Scotia Prince Cruise Line, docked in
the Mississippi River at Violet, had his crew clean the flag and prepare it
to be flown.
