A toll-free telephone number has been set up for St. Bernard residents to
check on the status of the travel trailer they have applied to receive from
FEMA.

The number is 1-888-860-2258.

Also, construction permit requirements have been released by St. Bernard
Parish government and its Department of Community Development, headed by
Mike Hunnicutt. The phone number is 504-278-4310.

No permit will be required for any cosmetic type of work such as sheetrock,
painting, flooring, carpeting, windows, doors, fixtures or other replacement
items to a structure.

Electrical work done on any structure or electrical inspections for the
purpose of Entergy to turn on power must be file by an electrician licensed
to do business in St. Bernard.

The electrician must file the proper information with the Department of
Community Development and follow the meter release procedures to restore
power to any structure.

Any new gas work must be filed by a gasfitter licensed to do business in the
parish. Any new plumbing work must be filed by a plumber licensed in the
parish.

Currently, no travel trailer or other temporary housing will require a
permit if located o yor property. Water, sewer and electrical service must
be available on site or provided for. Self-contained units are allowed but
must be maintained in a clean ad sanitary manner.

Electrical temporary poles must be filed by a St. Bernard-licensed
electrician.

Travel trailers and temporary housing will only be allowed for up to 18
months. Use of any public lands or right-of-ways is illegal.

Contact FEMA for a trailer and once approved, contact Entergy to set up your
account. There is no need to contact the parish because FEMA will handle the
electrical, water and sewer work.

If structural modification is required or a new structure is built, the
following is required to be submitted for a permit: completed permit
application, copy of title or property survey, a site plan showing locations
of all buildings and all dimension property lines, complete set of
construction drawings stamped by a licensed Louisiana architect or civil
engineer.

A temporary permit will be submitted to the applicant with submittal of all
four requirements.
Please have all paper work in order and don't deviate from the necessary
required list. If not sure of any requirement please ask questions.

All requirements from the state Health Department, state and local fire
departments, FEMA or any other regulating agency must be complied with.
