PARISH UPDATE FOR 12/16/05

>From Craig Taffaro on behalf of the St. Bernard Parish Council (Mark

Madary,
Judy Hoffmeister, Kenny Henderson, Chairman Joey DiFatta, Lynn Dean, and
Ricky Melerine)

Government Operations

Council meetings are being held on the first and third Tuesdays of each
month. Several other committee meetings are being held each week. The
council clerk can be reached at 278-4228 if you have any questions about
upcoming meetings or issues.

The council has been reviewing the proposed budget for 2006. The budget
will be adopted on December 20, 2006. There has been a tremendous amount of
budgetary cuts in the various departments for obvious reasons. The council
has attempted to maintain as many employees as possible and further
discussion of the employee base will be done at the meeting.

The Citizens Recovery Committee has been meeting regularly and developing a
plan that will be presented to the council sometime around mid January.

Within the government building, the second floor is housing Public Works,
Community Development, Homeland Security, Insurance and Risk Management, and
Personnel. In the former parking area behind the government building, there
are several office trailers set up and being set up for various government
operations. Signage is being done to help identify the different offices.
The Public Information Center is signed and located in the parking area.
