I think the people who did not have flood insurance are already kicking
themselves, people do not need to suggest they think for themselves; or call
them stupid etc. My insurance agent told me flood insurance was "a waste of
money and hurricane flooding was covered under your hazard insurance".
Hindsight is 20/20 and I wish everyday I had flood insurance. The fact that
I did not does not mean I think I deserve more assistance or am a bigger
victim and I think that is true for most. I think most people just all want
to be back in the life they were in Pre Katrina. I am sick of neighbors
bashing each other and name calling over proposed grants where some people
are using the storm to get rich with their insurance then double dipping
FEMA to get trailers to put up in their yards while also getting rental
reimbursement. Then there are families filing individually getting $10,000
grants each when that is not how it works. On top of all t hat people who
did not lose their jobs are finding anyway they can to not use their own
money. Things like this play a big factor in whether people return. I fell
for those who are busting their a** on their own and not trying to screw the
system.
