Westley,
I agree with you to a small degree, but the lawsuit part could have been
avoided. If Murphy had been honest in the beginning and not try to narrow
their responsibiity to the smallest group possible a lawsuit would have been
ineffective. Most big reputable companies would admit responsiility and pay
the people to avoid going to court. From what I've seen and heard they
shirked their responsibility by not keeping that one tank adequately filled.
If I'm not mistaken they admitted that.
So how can they be anything but wrong and irresponsible. It's great about
Murphy paying taxes and creating jobs but does that make them a good
neighbor?
If your next door neighbor would hire you to wash his car and cut his grass
,and pay a good price, would that make him a good neighbor? Not if he did
something to damage or destroy your property. You would no doubt sue him.
Since Murphy creates jobs and pays taxes should they be allowed to do as
they please in the parish and suffer no conequences? Did the parish survive
after Kaiser closed? And Kaiser did nothing to harm my property.
Thanks,
David Jochum
