After reading the T-P article about the insurance deadline of Dec 31 after
which they hold all the cards regarding a policy, I wrote advice no. 10 to
the next community to get a disaster.

The clock starts ticking the day of the crisis. FEMA, Red Cross, insurance
companies, SBA, IRS, etc. will all have deadlines counting down from the day
of the crisis. Sometimes these deadlines are extended. However, you and your
community cannot assume an extension until it is actually granted. For some
entities, like insurance companies, it is not in their best interest for
extensions to be given for such things as filing claims and for their right
to drop your insurance policy, lower the coverage limits, increase the
deductible, or change the terms of coverage. Therefore, act with a sense of
urgency. While your community may feel time is standing still, the rest of
the world is moving on and counting down.
