Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) to Rebroadcast Program on The Road Home

LPB will broadcast an encore of May's edition of Louisiana Public Square, a one-hour television program where panelists answered tough questions from residents and homeowners about Louisiana's housing program, known as The Road Home. The Road Home provides financial assistance for homeowners to get back into their homes and creates powerful incentives to rebuild rental properties so that everyone can have a chance to come home. Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco and members of the Louisiana Recovery Authority were on the panel for the program along with other housing experts.

The program will be rebroadcast on all LPB television stations and on WLAE-TV 32 in New Orleans on Wednesday, July 19 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 23 at 4 p.m. It will also be simulcast on KRVS-FM in Lafayette and Red River Radio in Shreveport and Alexandria and air on WRKF-FM in Baton Rouge on Sunday, July 23 at 3PM.

The Louisiana Public Square broadcast originally aired statewide in May. A survey of those who participated in the program showed a substantial increase in their understanding of The Road Home, their confidence that the Road Home would be fair to all homeowners and their feeling that the Road Home would help their family to rebuild.

New Recovery Resources on the Web

The LRA and its partners are constantly posting new recovery information on the Internet to better serve the residents of Louisiana during the recovery. People needing information can visit the following Web sites with new rebuilding information:

The official Web site for The Road Home (www.Road2La.org <http://www.Road2La.org> ) features information about homeowner assistance from The Road Home, job opportunities with the program, frequently asked questions about the program and more. During the next few weeks, the site will grow to include more resources to help get homeowners safely on The Road Home.

The www.LouisianaSpeaks.org <http://www.LouisianaSpeaks.org> site has a version of the Pattern Book for rebuilding ready to be downloaded, as well as a list of locations where copies of the book are available. The Pattern Book is a comprehensive toolkit of ideas for homeowners and businesses to use as they rebuild safer, stronger and smarter communities.

The Recovery School District in New Orleans (http://www.nolapublicschools.net/ <http://www.nolapublicschools.net/> ) has information about public schools in New Orleans online to help parents plan for the upcoming school year for their children. The Web site has information about school openings and how to apply for a teaching job in New Orleans.

Business Hurricane Prep Seminar Set for July 18

Louisiana Economic Development and the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce, along with Southeastern Louisiana University Small Business Development Center, will host "Business Prep Before the Next Hurricane" as a free seminar on July 18.

This workshop is designed to help businesses prepare in advance of any future storm. With many businesses still in recovery mode, there's been little time to dedicate to preparing for the new hurricane season. However, by setting priorities and getting some help in putting a plan together, it can be done - and done in a short amount of time. Business owners are often understandably daunted by the idea of putting together business-specific plans. Seminar presenters will make suggestions of items to consider that may have escaped consideration even after businesses withstood hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Topics include: mitigating risk, types of insurance available, backing up computer systems, addressing employee payroll and other labor issues, creating an overall business recovery plan and much more.

This event will be held at the Fountainebleu High School Auditorium in Mandeville from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is encouraged. For more information or to register, please contact 985-549-3831 or sbdc at selu.edu <mailto:sbdc at selu.edu> .
