I had this problem and my mortgage company said the same thing.  They
suggested if I could go to my local court house (clerk of court) it might
speed things up.  I went to Lena Torres' office at the court house and got
the papers and release the same day.  So if you can go to the clerk of
courts office, do that and bring ID.  If you have papers or anything to show
the property was paid off, bring that too just in case.  You should be able
to get your deed or act of sale paper from when you bought the house and
also get your mortgage canceled.
