MINUTES OF OPERATIONS BRIEFING
Thursday, August 17, 2006, 8:00 a.m.
David Peralta, Chief Administrative Officer
Present: 21
Emergency Operations: Larry Ingargiola. Not present.
Community Development: Gina Hayes.
1. The next two Saturday's our staff will be working our residents and
electricians together for electrical permits. This will be held in the brown
and white tent behind the Government Complex building. Anyone filing for an
electrical permit will also have to have a structural engineer report on
file stating the percentage of damaged to their property.
Public Works and Water and Sewer: Chris Merkl.
Curry reports:
1. URG is getting reports from their crews that some utility wires are
hanging below correct levels. If anyone sees a low hanging line please
report it to the Public Works Department.
2. URG is now picking up debris generated from the CCA group.
3. Tree debris pick up started yesterday.
Recovery: John Rahaim.
1. Dewalt Company began gutting five homes yesterday and will be working on
completing them today.
Public Assistance:
Residential: Craig Taffaro.
1. Has not received any information on trailers. Allison Davis, FEMA,
reported the Pilot program could be cancelled soon.
2. As a result of the Council meeting held Tuesday night the Katrina Permit
is still being worked on and as soon as we get all the issues resolved we
will inform the public.
Business: Charles Ponstein.
1. We are getting calls from electricians about a new form to be filled out.
Gina Hayes responded electricians do not have a new form to fill out it is
an extension form that if the address has expired within 180 days the
electrician or the resident has to come into the office and file for an
extension.
2. Newsweek magazine came to gather information from pre/post Katrina and
Gidget will report the rest.
3. American Heritage Homes will hold an Open House starting at 11:30 a.m. on
Saturday for the modular homes they are selling.
Private Non-Profit: Judy Hoffmeister. Not present.
Volunteers: Gidget McDougall
1. Met with Newsweek and introduced them to a family that has a 100 year
old home in the parish. It will be featured in the magazine.
2. We are still working on getting the event schedule for the August 29th
Anniversary.
Agriculture/Wildlife and Fisheries: Ricky Melerine. Not present.
Lake Borgne Basin Levee District: Bob Turner. Not present.
Medical: Dr. Bryan Bertucci. Not present.
EMS: Janie Fuller. No report at this time.
Public Safety: Sheriff's Office. Pete Tufaro. Not present.
Fire Department:
1. Reported 32 EMS calls since last Monday's meeting.
Environmental Issues:
CDC and DEQ: Wayne Desselle.
1. Reported that John McGee is no longer working for CCA, Mr. Casper has
taken his position.
EPA: Not present.
Murphy Oil: Carl Zornes.
1. Reports that Murphy Oil continues to clean homes.
Parish Government:
Parks and Recreation: John Metzler, Jr.
1. Continuing working on the different projects for the parks and gyms
throughout the parish.
General Information:
Next meeting scheduled for Monday, August 21, 2006, at 8 a.m.
