Hey John Scurich,

while not debating the Romero v Melancon issue remember it was during the
Truman administration that the OCS revenue share issue started,
notwithstanding the poor tactics of our senator at the time.

Bob F.,

Absolutely. At this point all one can go off of is public record by way of
the vote and performance of the job while on the clock. Politics are always
abound. While no one is perfect, I'll still take Romero's voting record as
a state legislator over Melancon's. Many others have short memories...I
don't. I recall Charlie's votes in the House and his political affiliations
to Louisiana's ill past. At least Romero was never part of that to what I
could find, but who knows - I wouldn't be surprised otherwise. Anyway, I
wouldn't be so naive to presume Melancon doesn't have any questionable
business/political deals in his past. After all, this is Louisiana, right?

If Romero is elected and he starts taking the free trips via the lobbyists,
then I'll rant and rave for his removal from office. I'm sick and tired of
elected officials forgetting they have a job to do - and it's not seeing how
many free trips and perks they can get out of the job. It seems nobody
wants to do the job for which they were elected anymore.

I guess Harry Truman will remain the most honest and truly hard working
elected official we ever had. He said he saw his elected office as a duty,
not a reward, especially the Presidency. He remains to this day the only
person known in American political history to have a lower net financial
worth upon leaving public office as when he entered. Now there was someone
who was in it to see the job done, not for perks.
