Former St. Bernard Parish Councilman Clay Cosse will seek the 103rd District
seat in the state House of Representatives.

Cosse, 55, was an at-large member of the St. Bernard Parish Council from
1996-2004. He represented District B from 1992-1996.

If elected, Cosse said he would fight to get a hospital in the 103rd
District, seek money for coastal restoration and push for "the immediate
needs of our levee system and the total closure of the Mississippi
River-Gulf Outlet."

On the Parish Council, Cosse said he was a "coalition builder" who did not
miss a meeting in 12 years. Cosse also served on the Regional Planning
Commission for eight years.

Cosse is a former commercial fisherman and seafood retailer. He is currently
the harbormaster at the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans.

The 103rd District includes Arabi, western Chalmette, parts of eastern New
Orleans and the rural communities in St. Bernard from Hopedale and Delacroix
to the east side of the Violet Canal.

Incumbent Ken Odinet is barred by term limits from seeking re-election. The
election is Oct. 20.
