Advisory: Baker to give Washington update and discuss hurricane recovery and transportation in speech to Baton Rouge Rotary on Wednesday

BATON ROUGE - U.S. Rep. Richard Baker, R-Baton Rouge, will deliver a speech to the Baton Rouge Rotary Club tomorrow to discuss South Louisiana flood protection and housing, flood insurance reform, and transportation reforms in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

Rep. Baker, the Ranking Republican on the Water Resources Subcommittee, was a lead negotiator of the Water Resources Development Act and will discuss its importance to South Louisiana . This legislation promises historic investments of more than $3 billion for Louisiana flood control, hurricane protection, coastal restoration, waterway improvements, and ecosystem rehabilitation projects, including, on the local level, an authorization of $187 million for flood control projects in East Baton Rouge Parish.

As we mark the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Rep. Baker will also discuss the challenges still facing South Louisiana as our state addresses the housing crisis and flood insurance reform and opportunities to alleviate transportation and traffic problems in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

Rep. Baker is scheduled speak beginning at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday at the group’s meeting at the Louisiana State Museum in downtown Baton Rouge . The meeting will be held in the multi-purpose room.
