St. Bernard arrests man who allegedly was involved in 15 break-ins

11:22 AM CDT on Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Chad Bower / Eyewitness News

The St. Bernard Sheriff's Department has arrested a man who was allegedly
involved in as many as 15 break-ins in the metropolitan area, according to
Sheriff Jack Stephens.

Deputies arrested Scott Rodrigue, 38, at his residence at 3120 N. Turnbull
Drive in Metairie on Oct. 22.

Numerous items, such as a police-style bullet-proof vest, an Olympic-style
bicycle, electronics equipment, cameras, video games, jewelry, power tools
and other items were found in the house, authorities said. Detectives
believe that these items were those stolen in burglaries spanning four
parishes.

Stephens said that many of the break-ins, which took place in Orleans,
Jefferson, St. Bernard and St. Tammany Parishes, likely happened during
Hurricane Gustav.

Another man, Paul Herkes, 29, is wanted in St. Bernard in connection with
the same burglary case. Detectives believe Rodrigue to be both a burglar and
a "fence" for people selling items they sold. They added that more arrests
are expected.

Rodrigue's is being held at the Jefferson Parish Detention Center with a
bond set at $107,500. He was also wanted on narcotics charges from St.
Bernard.
