Department of Community Development Updates

 

The St. Bernard Parish Department of Community Development will begin
renewing licenses for electricians, plumbers, gasfitters, HVAC
professionals, roofers, and general contractors on January 28, 2009. All
2008 licenses will no longer be honored after of March 1, 2009. 

 

A four-digit PIN number will accompany all new 2009 licenses and 2009
license renewals. The PIN number will allow licensees to call-in to request
inspections rather than having to come into the Office of Safety and Permits
each time. However, licensees will still be required to appear in-person
with their picture ID in order to do an initial main filing. 

 

Additionally, beginning February 1, 2009, all licensees will have the option
of scheduling an AM or PM inspection. All AM inspections will be conducted
between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and PM inspections will be
conducted between the hours of 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. St. Bernard Parish
Government will also re-establish the $20 "re-inspect fee" starting February
1, 2009. If an inspector cannot access the interior of a building at the
time of a scheduled inspection for any reason or if an inspection fails, the
licensee must appear in-person to the Office of Safety and Permits to pay a
$20 fine and to request another inspection. Please be advised that if the
street address of a property for which an inspection has been scheduled is
not clearly posted, an inspection failure will result and a re-inspect fee
will be assessed.  

 

Due to the enormous amount of homeowners reframing their homes, moving
walls, etc., all storm-damaged structures will be required to have a framing
inspection after all rough-in inspections have been complete and before the
walls are closed. The homeowner/contractor will be able to request the
inspection themselves and will not be required to hire an additional
tradesman for this task. This requirement will apply to all work permitted
after February 1, 2009.
