Soccer games start after lighting today - Thursday, Feb. 26;

Music, scheduled flyover and tree planting at grand opening on Sat., Feb. 28

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr., the Recreation Department
and the Parish Council will hold two ceremonies this week to celebrate the
progress at the football and soccer complex on the grounds of the former
Hannan High School in Meraux.

There will be a Soccer Season Kick-Off and Lighting Ceremony today -
Thursday, Feb. 26 at 5:45 p.m. to officially "light" the fields. Following
the lighting of the fields, the 5- and 6-year-old boys and girls will play
the first game of the 2009 season.

On Saturday, Feb. 28, at 9 a.m. there will be a Grand Opening Ceremony at
Hannan with music and a scheduled flyover. Two Dogwood trees will be planted
as well, donated by the Civic Beautification Association, a multi-parish
group of garden clubs. One of the trees is being dedicated in the memory of
Lindsay Gallo, a former Hannan High athlete who died of cancer. The tree had
been damaged since Katrina.
