St. Bernard Parish is expecting potentially heavy rain and winds associated
with Tropical Depression 5

 

St. Bernard Parish President Craig Taffaro is asking that people take
precautions to prepare for severe weather from Tropical Depression 5 that
has reformed and is threatening to affect the area. 

 

"Residents should be prepared for tropical storm activity over the next 36
to 48 hours," President Taffaro said. "Communities from the lower end of the
parish to Chalmette have now experienced some of the system's weather
bands." 

 

Officials are not recommending any evacuations at this time. Residents
should make their usual preparations for severe weather, including securing
outside items such as garbage cans and patio furniture. Citizens should
clear debris from street drains.

 

St. Bernard Parish may possibly experience 3 to 5 inches of rain over the
next two days. Strongest winds are expected to be about 40 miles per hour.

 

The St. Bernard Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness is being partially
stood up during this weather event. Any citizens who may need assistance can
call the St. Bernard OEP at 504-278-4268. The Parish will monitor this
