A man wanted in connection a Baton Rouge home invasion last week that
resulted in the death of a woman and the shooting of her 9-year-old daughter
has been captured in St. Bernard Parish, authorities said this morning.

Aramis Jackson, 20, was identified as a suspect in the case when the State
Police crime lab linked him to DNA evidence found at the scene.

He was caught Tuesday morning in Violet, where he had been staying for a day
with a woman who he apparently met on the Internet, Baton Rouge police
detectives told the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office.

Jackson met the woman on the Internet, who didn't know he was a murder
suspect, and came down on a bus from Baton Rouge yesterday, according to the
Sheriff's Office.

Jackson was alone when Sheriff's Office deputies and the U.S. Marshals
Service executed the search warrant at the home on Meraux Lane in Violet
about 11 a.m.

Authorities earlier had said Jackson might have been seeking refuge with
relatives.

Alexandra Engler, 42, was shot to death and her daughter was shot six times
during the home invasion in Baton Rouge last week, according to Baton Rouge
news reports.

Sgt. Don Kelly, a spokesman for the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Police
Department, said the crime appears to have been a burglary and there is no
known connection between Jackson and the victims.

Detectives with St. Bernard and Baton Rouge are at the scene gathering
additional evidence.
