New annex for St. Bernard Sheriff's Office opens behind parish courthouse

A new St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office annex building has opened behind
the parish courthouse.

Effective Monday, residents can go to the civil division there to get
occupational licenses or pay taxes and traffic fines.
Work on the building began in April 2010 after demolition of the original
annex, a two-story building damaged in Hurricane Katrina. That structure,
built in 1963, housed parish government until the late 1970s.
The new $5 million two-story building was funded by the Federal Emergency
Management Agency and some insurance proceeds.
