BATON ROUGE, La. - On Friday, the Louisiana Department of Environmental
Quality began testing the air in the Chalmette area due to odor concerns,
according to the DEQ.

Reports of strong odors began Thursday night.

The St. Bernard Fire Department contacted the DEQ after noticing the odor
and a plume emitting from the vicinity of the Valero Refinery, Rain CII
plant and Chalmette Refinery.

Staff members of the Mobile Air Monitoring Laboratory are currently within
neighboring communities in order to determine the origin of the odor and to
ensure public safety.

To report an environmental issue or concern, citizens should call
1-888-763-5424 or submit and inquiry online at
http://www.deq.louisiana.gov/apps/forms/irf/forms/.
